Ann Hamilton was born in 1956 in Lima Ohio. Despite having a degree in sculpture she mainly uses a lot of textiles and fabrics in her work. Other important aspects of her work are photography, installation, videos and objects. In most of her recent work she has experimented with trading different sense organ with each other. Her more sensual installations uses soundtrack, organic materials, objects like tables, and film footage An example of her work is the Toothpick Suit, where she layered several toothpicks onto a suit she even wore it and photographed it. In one of her works she discussed slavery and oppression in American society, This work consisted of a wall embossed with braille, a red powder was drizzled down the wall making the language visible.
