Artist # 12

Eleanor Antin an American artist born in 1935, her work consists of film making, performance, drawing and installation. She uses history as her inspiration when creating her work. Antin is considered a cultural chameleon using stage roles to show her many selves. Through out her work she has created many persona's her most famous being Eleanora Antinova. This character is the overlooked black ballerina, Antin has made this character come to life not just by simply making the character but Antinova has her own memoir, photographs, her own history. When performing as Antinova, Antin blurs the distinction between herself and her character. Antin has also used pieces of history in her works mostly ancient history, in one series "The Last Days of Pompei" it is depicting the catastrophe before the whole city is engulfed by volcanic ash.
