Fred Wilson is a conceptual artist, he was born in 1954 in the Bronx. He graduated with BFA from SUNY Purchase in 1976. Wilson's approach to his art is to examine, question and deconstruct the usual display of art and artifacts. His work leads the viewers to recognize that changes in context changes meanings. He also forces the viewer to question the "biases of cultural institutions and how they have shaped the interpretation of historical truth, artistic value, and language of display." Wilson doesnt have the desire to create things but rather he likes to bring things together, he says he says, “from bringing together objects that are in the world, manipulating them, working with spatial arrangements, and having things presented in the way I want to see them.” He not only brings together the objects but also thinks about things such as labels, lighting, and the display itself.
