5 Artists

Rebecca Horn- is a sculptor who uses a variety of objects such as violins, feathered fans, suitcases, etc. a lot of her works tend to be kinetic and are transformed to something that defies what they are originally made for. For example her sculpture Concert of Anarchy is a piano that is hanging upside down from the ceiling and it is made to practically fall apart creating a 'song' that sounds chaotic, but it retracts back to its original form. Now we all know a piano is not made to hang from a ceiling or fall apart.
Her early works with Body Extensions she "explores the equilibrium between body and space." she later moved onto to more kinetic sculptures that seem to come to life "kinetic sculptures that are liberated from their defined materiality and continuously transposed into ever-changing metaphors touching on mythical, historical, literary and spiritual imagery."

Cornelia Parker- is an English artist. her works for some time focused on the theme of things being out of our control. Whether it was blowing up a garden shed to create a work showing the explosion in process, or steam rolling many silver objects, "Through a combination of visual and verbal allusions her work triggers cultural metaphors and personal associations, which allow the viewer to witness the transformation of the most ordinary objects into something compelling and extraordinary."
Many of her works, use lighting and shadows to add more to the piece, like in the exploding shed, the shadows created give more to feel of chaos.

Claes Oldenburg- A Swedish artist known for his sculptures of 'soft' versions of everyday objects. Many of his sculptures end up being larger than life, or at least 10 times bigger than what the object it is protraying really is in reality. some of his sculptures are known to have some interactive capabilities to them. " Many of Oldenburg's giant sculptures of mundane objects elicited public ridicule before being embraced as whimsical, insightful, and fun additions to public outdoor art."

Damian Hirst- English artist well known for his works with dead animals. He uses death a lot as a central theme in his art. His series with dead animals uses animals that have been sometimes disected and they are immersed in formaldehyde he "sought to challenge the boundaries between art, science and popular culture. His energy and inventiveness, and his consistently visceral, visually arresting work, has made him a leading artist of his generation."

Carl Andre- American minimalist artist. he uses a lot of linear and grid formats in his art. Some of his work like his one with the rectangle formed from 120 bricks, was at first questioned if that could be called art, it was an example of the beginging of redefining what are is.
